After a 25-year absence, Christo and Jeanne-Claude have returned to ltaly. Their work first appeared here in 1963, when Christo had a solo exhibition at Gallerie Le Noci in Milan. ln 1968, Christo-invited by Giovanni Carandente curator of the Spoleto Festival-wrapped Costantino Fiaschetti’s Fonte di Piazza (1948-49) in the piazza del Mercato and the ’14th-century Torre di Fortebraccio. Then in Milan in 1970, Christo wrapped the statue of Leonardo da Vinci in Piazza della Scala and the monument of King Vittorio Emanuele ll in Piazza del Duomo. Christo’s last ltalian project occurred in Rome in 1974 when he wrapped the Roman wall from Porta Pinciana in Via Veneto to the Villa Borghese… Subscribe to Sculpture Magazine to read the full review.
