Wild Life: Elizabeth Murray & Jessi Reaves

Carnegie Museum of Art

On view through January 9, 2022

Traveling from the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, “Wild Life: Elizabeth Murray & Jessi Reaves” presents sculptural assemblages by New York-based sculptor Jessi Reaves alongside a selection of works from the 1960s to the 2000s by painter Elizabeth Murray (1940–2007). Murray’s often monumental constructed canvases, stylistically difficult to categorize, are complemented by Reaves’s eccentric recombinations of modern furniture designs. The exhibition suggests a lineage between the two artists, who both confront ideas about the role of detail, the domestic, and the bodily in art-making.
