Seattle-based Matt Sellars is known in the Northwest for meticulously carved minimal forms that suggest structures no longer in their prime. A native of Spokane, Washington, whose motto “Near nature. Near perfect” reveals community ideals firmly rooted in the natural world, Sellars has poetically connected images of the rural landscape (catawampus barns and swaying sheds) to concepts of transformation, memory, and loss of resources.
