Gabriel Orozco, Blue Sandals, Cibachrome print, 31.5 x 47.3 cm.

This group show of contemporary Mexican art breaks the stereotypes of Mexico as a folklore culture lost in time and of Mexican art as magic and/or social realism. Conceived by Guillermo Santamarina, director of the alternative art center Ex Teresa in Mexico City, and curator Paloma Porraz, “l and My Circumstance” comprises the attempts of 12 Mexican artists to address the theme of mobility in contemporary culture. New images and impulses and an emergent self-confidence are apparent in these works selected from Mexico City’s flourishing alternative art scene… See the print version of Sculpture Magazine for the full review.
