“I’ve been making sculpture for 35 years and I still don’t know what I’m doing.” So confides Ron Pederson, who nevertheless has shaped a productive, influential career, working in a variety of materials while impacting hundreds, maybe thousands of students. A professor at Grand Rapids’ Aquinas College since 1982, Pederson has served as artist-in-residence at that city’s Urban Institute for Contemporary Art and as art reviewer for The Grand Rapids Press. He’s exhibited extensively in Michigan, often in collaboration with his poet wife, Miriam. He is the recipient of this year’s International Sculpture Center Educator of the Year Award.
