“To some degree, we have a ‘do it well and they will come’ theory,” Francis Greenburger, the founder of Omi International Arts Center (Art Omi), said recently. “We’re less concerned about large numbers than about being an important venue for the type of art that we’re exhibiting. We are art-centric rather than box-office-centric. We don’t have to justify our numbers to anybody. What differentiates us from Storm King—which of course has a fantastic modern collection and contemporary exhibitions but is more tied to the modern period—is that we’re trying to be on the cutting edge of where sculpture is today.”
