Alaska-born artist Athena LaTocha regularly incorporates materials such as ink, lead, earth, and wood into her large-scale works. For The Remains of Winter, the artist’s first outdoor work, LaTocha sourced trees marked for felling by the horticultural department of the 478-acre Brooklyn cemetery to create a series of lead-shrouded sculptures in its Historic Chapel and Battle Hill.
